Teen Interrupts Burglary, Gets Shot At By Suspects: Police

The girl walked in on three juveniles who were allegedly robbing her home. One suspect has been caught, while the other two remain at large.

Note: This is an update of a previous story reported on Clearwater Patch. Police had originally stated the girl was 15-years-old.

A 16-year-old girl who surprised a trio of burglars when she got home on Friday barely escaped being shot, as the suspects fled the scene, according to police.

Clearwater Police are reporting that the teen arrived at her Ridgewood Street home Friday afternoon, looked up the stairs and saw the barrel of a handgun, she told media after the incident.

One of the suspects fired a round from the handgun at the girl; the round struck the floor and missed the teen, according to the police report.

Police say the three suspects then ran back upstairs and jumped out of a second story bedroom window; witnesses reported seeing the suspects fleeing the scene riding bicycles and heading toward Drew Street.

A 'Be On The Lookout' was issued, and Clearwater Police officers and Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene.

During the search, a CPD officer saw a person who matched the description of one of the suspects walking south on Highland Avenue near Flagler Drive.

Three officers approached the suspect, who was positively identified by a witness as one of the persons fleeing the residence.

Clearwater Police took the suspect, who is not being named because he is a juvenile, into custody, where he is being questioned about the incident.

Police say a pair of guns, a portable DVD player and jewelry were stolen from the home.

The suspect has been charged with armed burglary. Police are still searching for the other two suspects.
