Elderly Driver Crashes Into Pawn Shop

The driver mistakenly placed his foot on the gas pedal instead of the brake as he parked in front of the store.

An elderly motorist who mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake slammed his silver Cadillac into the Quick Cash Pawn shop Tuesday in Clearwater.

The vehicle plowed through the wall and drove all the way inside the store, according to Clearwater police.

The unnamed driver suffered minor cuts and was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital. A passenger in the vehicle with him was not injured.

The incident occurred at 1:45 p.m. at 1735 Drew St. The store owner, who was inside at the time, was not injured.

Police and firefighters responded, as well as officials from the City of Clearwater building department.

Firefighters used a large jack to make sure the front of the store was stable and safe until more permanent repairs could be made.
