Parks and Rec Plan
City officials are updating the Master Plan for the parks and recreation system and want to hear from residents. The first open house is from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Ross Norton Recreation and Aquatic Complex, 1426 S. MLK, Jr. Ave. Another is set for the same time Thursday, Aug. 22, at North Greenwood Recreation and Aquatic Complex, 900 N. MLK, Jr. Ave.

Alligator Creek Cleanup Saturday

The City of Clearwater Parks and Recreation Department is looking for 30 to 50 volunteers interested in helping city staff to clean up a large amount of trash including plastic and glass bottles and grocery bags, on Saturday, Aug. 24. The project will begin at 8 a.m. and last until 3 p.m.

The area is located near the corner of U.S. 19 and State Road 590, in a wooded area of city property. Parking will be available at the Super 8 Motel, 22950 U.S. 19.

It’s important to remove the trash from the area because it is next to a lake which feeds into Alligator Creek; Alligator Creek flows through several of Clearwater’s parks. By removing the trash at this site prior to it getting washed into the lake, we will prevent water pollution downstream.

While forecasters anticipate blue skies and plenty of sunshine as the kids head off to school Wednesday, another round of afternoon storms is likely on the horizon. Highs in the 90s are expected again today, as well.

Lowry Park Zoo Has a New Star

Visitors to Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo are in for a treat courtesy of new arrival Mavi. The baby African elephant was born back in July, but her name was just selected courtesy of Bay area residents who voted in a contest and the little bundle of joy’s Mom, Matjeka.
