ReplyA dog park would certainly serve to heighten our sense of community! Coming from Hoboken, where dog parks abound, I can say from experience that it is a terrific plus.

ReplyErrors are not shameful, they are simply part of the human condition. Yup, I made one. It happens. And over time I'll make more. Regardless, I hope the heart and content of this particular piece touches readers in some meaningful way, and perhaps they will find the generosity to forgive me this grave injustice.
Personally, I only get my own knickers in that much of a twist over insensitivity, serious illness, prejudice, bullying and cruelty. It's ironic (and sad) that this amount of negativity is being generated by a piece whose subject is the impossible sadness brought on by profound loss.

ReplyYes Linda...REALLY.
As someone lucky enough to have lived in (and loved) Manhattan, I know first-hand that the remarkable and unique sense of "place" the city offers its residents is like nothing else in the world. So much so, that when you are in the thick of life there, it feels like a lushly stimulating country of its own. I am very grateful to have been a citizen of NYC, just as I am grateful now to have moved on.

On the article Disaster Safety For Pets: BE PREPARED!

Hi Mary. Thanks for commenting. You're right and I should have explained more clearly; I actually meant that the ofen chaotic "circumstances" of a blackout may make it impossible for a pet's microchip to be read by someone who can return a pet, and it is worth it to double up with a good sturdy collar and tag. When it comes to my pets, I'd do anything to keep them safe!

On the article Cardinale: 'Planned Parenthood Promotes Child Prostitution'

ReplyPlanned Parenthood as a "promoter of child prostitution?" This kind of ignorence endangers every aspect of intelligent society and harkens back to the dark ages. It's disappointing to have an official who utilizes his own personal "inner idiot" to determine public policy....rather than subjectively reflecting (and addressing) the voices and needs of the community. I'm surprised this comment hasn't gone viral on YouTube....is it just that it's summer and we're all not listening very closely? This comment needs to be firmly attached to and associated with Cardinale going forward.

ReplyThanks DKM...there was no intended connection, but in the aftermath of the wreckage of American justice that was the Casey Anthony trial, I feel more strongly than ever about our jobs (or is it our "honors?") as adults.

ReplyThanks Vicki and R for your kind and interesting comments. It's so helpful to hear from husband and wife readers! I'm always interested in the varied reactions to fiction depending on gender. I always used to spy on what other people were reading when I was on the subway (but now Kindle has made that very difficult!). I truly appreciate people taking the time to both read and comment on my work. Again, many thanks.

ReplyThank you all so much for your very kind words. Many traditional venues for fiction (like literary magazines, which I frequently publish in) have a limited readership made up mostly of editors and other writers. I am especially happy to publish fiction here because the readership is so diverse.
I am grateful to Patch (and to editor Eamon Harbord) for being open to presenting readers with something different. Again, many thanks.
