Gay Marriage Billboard Placement Near Catholic Church Unintentional

A censored billboard supporting gay marriage was not put across the street from St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on purpose, the advertiser said Thursday.

A censored billboard supporting gay marriage was not put across the street from a Catholic church on purpose, the advertiser said Thursday. Greg Hodge, managing director of beautifulpeople.com, launched a national advertising campaign to bring awareness to the dating website's new gay and lesbian version, and said he had no idea the controversial billboard is adjacent to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. “It’s a clean billboard, everybody’s dressed,” Hodge said. “In my eyes it would not be offensive. I would not be concerned if my child looked at a billboard like that.” Gay marriage goes against Catholic teaching. Clear Channel Responds to Censored Billboard

A controversial billboard was censored because the advertiser did not get rights to use images of the actors portrayed in the political satire, not because it supports gay marriage, officials at Clear Channel say.

Clear Channel, Not Clearwater Censors Gay Marriage Billboard

After the city is criticized for censoring a billboard supporting gay marriage in a national press campaign by dating website beautifulpeople.com, officials learn the content was not approved by Clear Channel Outdoors.

Officials in Clearwater want to make it understood: They did not ban a billboard supporting gay marriage. And, although some delegates will be staying here, Clearwater is not the host city of the Republican National Convention. The city is being criticized in a national advertising campaign by dating website beautifulpeople.com for censoring a billboard that depicts presidential candidate Mitt Romney betrothed to real estate mogul Donald Trump by President Barack Obama because it is the site of the RNC. “I would expect the hate mail to begin tomorrow and after that if it doesn’t get corrected,” said Joelle Castelli, city spokeswoman. Greg Hodge, managing director of beautifulpeople.com, launched the advertising campaign to bring awareness …

This is all dumb, the only reason Clear Channel did not allow the content was because the advertiser did not have rights to the images of the politicians. You can not use images of people without their consent (yes, even politicians) and then point a finger at Clear Channel for following normal copyright laws... sheesh! please use legal advertising to get publicity for a commercial service!
