What Clearwater's Saying: Crest Lake Park Plans to Be Unveiled This Summer

Clearwater Patch readers shared their ideas about what they would like to see added to the park.

Crest Lake Park could be redeveloped to offer more than Largo's Central Park some Clearwater Patch readers said regarding plans to revamp the public space. Others gave warning to the potential consequences that could come from recreating the park. The type of amenities, financing for them and the different stakeholders who will be involved in the process will be unveiled this summer. Under the plan, which still needs funding, the park’s berms could be removed, interactive activities for children would be added, as well as a possible veterans memorial. Clearwater Patch readers shared their thoughts about what they would like to see added to the park: InsiderMyself: "Let's have a water splash area. A fenced in play area like Largo. Let's …

What Clearwater's Saying: Crest Lake Park Bathrooms Coming Down

Clearwater Patch readers shared their thoughts about a recent vote to demolish the bathrooms at Crest Lake Park.

City leaders should work to add lights and deter criminal elements at Crest Lake Park rather than destroy the bathrooms, according to some Clearwater Patch readers. Others agree that they should be destroyed, which is expected to happen within about 30 days after city leaders voted to demolish them and spend up to $9,000 to do so during the City Council meeting Thursday. Here are some of the comments Clearwater Patch readers shared about the planned bathroom demolition: "Stop feeding them and start trespassing them and they will go away and put more lights in the park and we can haven our park back. It's pretty simple," Jason Zubov said on Facebook. Debbie Smith Caligiuri: "Ridiculous... No bathrooms in a children's public park." Nancy …

What Clearwater's Saying: Demolishing Bathrooms at Crest Lake Park

Clearwater Patch readers shared their thoughts about plans to destroy the bathrooms at Crest Lake Park, including support for redeveloping the public space and the need for restrooms there.

Neighborhood leaders asked for the bathrooms to be reopened at Crest Lake Park.  City leaders responded with talk of pursuing a program to finance future upgrades for the park and destroying the bathrooms, something they will talk more about at an April 4 meeting. Bathrooms at the park have been closed since June 11, 2012 as part of the city’s efforts to usher homeless into social services and to deter crime at the park, officials have said. Clearwater Patch readers shared their thoughts about plans to destroy the bathrooms at Crest Lake Park, including support for redeveloping the public space and the need for restrooms there: "It makes me sad that it has come to this. Crest lake is a beautiful, natural park that has been the center of …

Why destroy the bathrooms when no plans for the remodel have been decided yet? Open them for use until renovations begin; 5 yrs from now is a long wait! How about welding shut the bathrooms in the office buildings of the city officials and see how well that works??!! Doesn't sound so good now does it, but it's ok to do it at a public park. Double Standards.... A spray park would be a wonderful …   more ›

What Clearwater's Saying: Town Lake Project Coming to Downtown?

Here is what some Clearwater Patch readers had to say about the possible 300-unit, mixed-use Town Lake project near Prospect Lake Park that could be built as soon as June 2014.

City leaders are pushing to begin digging for the Town Lake project, a possible 300-unit, four story mixed-use development planned for downtown Clearwater, by June 2014. Officials recently sent the project out for developers to bid on and expect to select a project by June. The developer is expected to be able to build it within 12 months, according to the proposal documents. Here is what some Clearwater Patch readers had to say about the possible project: Jimmy p: "Thats right, keep overdeveloping any piece of land you can find and soon clearwater will be looking like the New Jersey turnpike. For an area so dense, its amazing zoning like this is happening. This town is losing its natural look by the minute. It is so overpopulated, in the …
