Tornado Watch Issued for Pinellas, Hillsborough Counties

The tornado watch expires at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4. Torrential rains are also expected throughout Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Pinellas and Hillsborough counties until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4.  Other counties included in the watch are Sarasota, Desoto, Charlotte and Manatee. The Weather Service also issued a special statement about strong thunderstorms in the area. "Gusty winds of 35 to 45 mph will occur," the weather service reported. "Torrential rains will reduce visibility to near zero and will cause ponding of water on roadways." Thursday's storms also bring the risk of "damaging winds, hail, isolated tornadoes and frequent dangerous lightning strikes," the weather service said.  According to the National Weather Service, winds will increase the small craft advisory level and remain elevated through …

Tornado Watch Issued For Clearwater

The National Weather Service is asking residents to be mindful of conditions as they go about their day, Feb. 26.

A tornado watch is in effect in Clearwater through 3 p.m. today, Feb. 26. According to the National Weather Service’s Ruskin office, that means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. Meteorologist Rick Davis says the threat of severe weather is possible later this morning and into this afternoon as “kind of a squall line will move through the area. The potential is there for isolated tornadoes and damaging wind gusts.” Thunderstorms are also possible. Davis urges Clearwater residents to keep an eye on the weather as they go through their day. Tornado Watch Issued for Tampa Bay Area

The entire region is under a watch until 8 p.m. as rains from Tropical Storm Debby continue to blanket the area.

Update, June 24 2:08 p.m.: As strong storms continue to move through our area, the National Weather Service has been issuing tornado warnings for multiple counties in the Tampa Bay area. A warning “is issued when a tornado is indicated by the WSR-88D radar or sighted by spotters; therefore, people in the affected area should seek safe shelter immediately,” according to the weather service’s website. Tornado Watch Issued For Clearwater Area

Heavy storms are expected for rush hour traffic and throughout the night.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for most of central and north Florida for today ( March 30). The watch, which includes Clearwater, is anticipated to remain in effect until 8 p.m. The storms should bring heavy wind and as much as three inches of rain, said Jennifer Colson, a meteorologist in the weather service's Ruskin office. She said to watch out for water spouts, damaging winds, tornados and hail. "There's a good chance it will be hitting part of the rush hour drive time,” Colson said. “Just take caution the roads are going to be wet and slick.” A line of thunderstorms are about 75 miles off the coast, Colson said.
