10-Day Sugar Sand Festival Kicks Off Friday on Clearwater Beach

Here's a full rundown of events for the Frenchy's Sugar Sand Festival, which begins Friday, April 19 on Clearwater Beach.

The sugary sands that helped Clearwater earn recognition as USA Today's Best Beach Town in Florida will be a key ingredient in the 10-day Frenchy's Sugar Sand Festival, which kicks off Friday, April 19. The new event, which this year combines with the 60-year-old Fun ‘n Sun Festival and the Sunsets at Pier 60 Daily Festival, runs April 19-28 and includes a host of fun activities. A highlight is the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit, where 1,000 tons of Clearwater Beach sand will be carved into an artistic walk-through display in a 12,000-square-foot tent just south of Pier 60. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students ages 13-18 and $5 for seniors and military. Children 12 and younger are free. Other events include sand sculpting competitions and …

Super Boat Race Coming to Clearwater Beach Sunday

The Bright House Super Boat National Championship and Seafood Festival will be held this weekend, Sept. 28-30.

Powerboats will be thundering off Clearwater Beach at the Bright House Super Boat National Championship and Seafood Festival this weekend. The festivities kick off Friday with VIP and block parties, boat parade and a meet-and-greet and photo session with the racers and their boats. The fun continues with a fireworks display on Saturday. Celebrate Mexican Independence 'El Grito' Style

Honor the day with a "Shout of Independence" party at Cleveland Street and Missouri Avenue Saturday, Sept. 15, afternoon.

Celebrate Mexican independence with a shout. "El Grito," the shout, is in commemoration of when Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, shouted a message of freedom and revolt against Spain's rule from his church balcony in the Mexican state of Guanajuato Sept. 15, 1810. The incident sparked the start of the uprising leading to Mexico's independence. To honor the day the Mexican Council of Tampa Bay and the city of Clearwater invite residents to join in the "Shout of Independence" street party titled "El Grito" from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the corner of Cleveland Street and Missouri Avenue.
