Clearwater Runner Honors Boston Bombing Victims

Run Tampa organized “Run to Remember,” a group run at Trout Creek Park dedicated to those affected by the tragedy.

Dressed in blue and yellow—the official colors of the Boston Marathon—55 runners trekked along a path at Trout Creek Park in Tampa recently. They were part of Run Tampa’s Run to Remember, which honored those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings Monday, April 15. “We wore the ‘We Will Remember’ bibs and had a moment of silence before we started,” said running coach Debbie Voiles, the founder of Run Tampa. The bibs were created by a member of the run group. They read: “4/15/13, Boston, Runners United to Remember.” Run Tampa is made up of people who are interested in running and racing. Sixth Annual Willa Carson Run is Saturday

The sixth annual Willa Carson Health and Wellness Center 5K Run/Walk is Saturday at Coachman Park.

The sixth annual Willa Carson Health and Wellness Center 5K Run/Walk is Saturday at Coachman Park.  Runners and walkers of all ages can participate in the race events from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. “We are especially excited about the run/walk this year because we have moved the race to Coachman Park,” Carrie Hepburn, with the health center, said in a release.  More than 100 runners have participated at past events. Awards for the 5K Run are $250 for first place, $150 for second and $100 for third. Registration starts at 6:30 a.m., with the run/walk beginning at 7 a.m. The first 100 runners to register get a free race T-shirt. Cost is $25. The fun walk activities cost $10. Money raised benefits the health center that serves …

Race Promoter Challenges Patch Editors to Run Frenchy's 5K, Phinley 10K

Dunedin resident Suzanne Henslee challenged Patch editors across Tampa Bay to get more fit by pledging to run in the Frenchy's Tiki 5K Beer Run And Phinley's Holiday 10K at Bright House Field on Saturday. Wish them luck!

Suzanne Henslee is passionate about creating a buzz about health and fitness. So passionate that she lives by her own community health initiative, inspired by her late husband's battle with cancer. The Dunedin woman once said she'd even be willing to walk door to door to promote that initiative. Earlier this summer, Henslee threw the health-and-fitness gauntlet down to Patch editors across Tampa Bay, challenging them to run in the Frenchy's Tiki 5K Beer Run And Phinley's Holiday 10K, a race that she helps organize every year. The popular afternoon race begins and ends on home plate at Bright House Field, home of the Clearwater Threshers. 5 Things to Know About This Weekend's Triathlon

Get active Sunday morning at the 7th Annual Morton Plant Mease Triathlon.

Get active this Sunday morning at the 7th Annual Morton Plant Mease Triathlon. The course begins with a 1/3-mile open water swim in the Gulf of Mexico at Sand Key Park. From there, the 13-mile bike route crosses Sand Key Causeway, goes through Clearwater Beach, over the Memorial Causeway, through downtown Clearwater and Belleair, to the Belleair Beach Causeway. Runners will complete the race with a 3.1-mile run through Sand Key Park. The event will benefit the not-for-profit hospitals of Morton Plant Mease Health Care and help fund new pediatric equipment for its emergency rooms.
