Five Things to Know Today: Monday, June 25

It's a rainy start to the week, find cheap gas, join our Local Voices, try to get a $2,000 dog park grant and more is going on in Clearwater Monday (June 25).

  1. If the rainy weekend were not enough (thanks Tropical Storm Debby), expect up to a quarter inch of rain and gust of wind up to 30 mph with a high near 87, according to the National Weather Service. If you know of or have a rained out event or have a great weather related photo, let our readers (and other folks in Clearwater know). 2. This is always a good time to make sure you have the right tires and your windshield wiper blades work properly.  3. Start the week off right with a tank of the cheapest gas. Get a gallon of regular unleaded for $3.12 at Sunoco, 11600 U.S. 19, according to tampagasprices.com. Don't forget to …

Open House Planned For Preliminary US 19 Improvement Ideas

More than 100 comments and ideas have come from a survey asking about future use along the US 19 corridor. Those will be featured at an open house May 30.

How can travel along US 19 be improved?  Maybe by creating pull offs for bus stops, according to one suggestion.  What about signs to let drivers know where a business is? Maybe the city can change its rules so they can be larger and easier to see, one commenter offered. These and more than 100 other ideas and comments came in when officials asked residents, business owners and others who have a stake in the future development of US 19 for their take on how to improve the corridor through the first round of questions, which were posted online from March 5 to May 12. The preliminary plan ideas will be presented and discussed at an open house May 30 in the Diamond Room at La Quinta Inn, 21338 US Highway 19 N. While it is still undergoing …
