The new tool lets Clearwater customers present digital coupons at the checkout.
Clearwater couponers soon will have a new way to save in the Publix checkout line. The grocery retailer is poised to roll out its new digital coupons at stores throughout Central Florida over the next few weeks, according to The Tampa Tribune. The digital coupon program enables Publix shoppers to skip cutting out coupons to bring into the store. Instead, all they have to do is sign up for a free account, select their coupons online and then give the telephone number associated with their account in the checkout line. The coupons that match the purchases made will automatically be applied toward the bill, according to the Publix website. The recall affects 45 different products. There is a concern these items may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Publix customers in the Clearwater area may want to check the ID numbers on any cake products they purchased from the bakery. The grocery chain has issued a recall on 45 different products distributed between Nov. 11 and Nov. 15 by Maplehurst, a private bakery supplier. According to a media release, there is a concern about a potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This bacteria causes an illness that can be serious and even fatal in young children, elderly people and those with compromised immune systems. “While the product is no longer available on store shelves, we have issued a voluntary recall because of our commitment to food safety and to advise our customers who may still have this product at home,” said Maria Brous, Publix…

Plans are in place to close the Publix Supermarket at Sunset 19 Shopping Center on Dec. 29, according to officials with the grocery chain.
Supermarket shoppers near U.S. 19 and Sunset Point Road will have to find a new grocery store soon. Plans are in place to close the Publix Super Market at Sunset 19 Shopping Center on Dec. 29, according to officials with the grocery chain. The store is closing because another is close by and there is not enough business in the area to sustain both locations, according to Shannon Patten, a spokeswoman with Publix. There is a Publix at the Beckett Lake Plaza about a half mile away. Employees will be offered the chance to work at other nearby stores, Patten said. “I can assure you that ensuring job security of our associates is a top priority,” Patten said. “When an existing store closes, all of the associates are given the opportunity to …

Publix will roll out online ordering at Tampa Bay area stores later this year and select stores will also electronic in-store ordering.
It will soon be time to ditch that ticket waiting in line at the Publix deli. Publix announced today it will launch online ordering for its deli at some of the Sarasota stores, and select stores will have in-store electronic kiosks to place orders for meats, cheeses and Publix subs. "Our customers tell us they love Publix and love the products we provide, but they look for a way to get them quickly and easily," Publix spokeswoman Shannon Patten told Patch. The free feature will launch Aug. 3 at Lakeland's South Gate Shopping Center store, and will roll out to 50 additional stores by the end of this year, Patten said. No minimum purchase or order is necessary and customers will pay at the register with the rest of their groceries. Patten …

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Community Policing Unit helped distribute holiday food to families in need.
A group effort brought Easter dinner to 60 families on Thursday including the Ridgecrest and Highpoint neighborhoods. Since 2003 several community partners have helped provide holiday meals by identifying families in need, donating money and distributing the food. Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies from the Community Policing Unit and the Greater Ridgecrest Area Youth Development Initiative (GRAYDI) helped identify the families in need. The deputies in the Community Policing Unit "are the problem solvers in the agency. They are people who look at the problem itself and any triggers such as environmental issues...from street light repairs to the need for senior services," said Captain Teri Dioquino. The Calvary Episcopal Church, Indian …
