College juniors and seniors majoring in political science, public administration or business administration, journalism or mass communications at an accredited Florida college could be eligible for a $1,200 scholarship. The Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections, comprised of the 67 county supervisors, awards the scholarship. “College tuition continues to increase, and we are looking for eligible students who could benefit from this scholarship from our state association,” Deborah Clark, Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections, said in a release. Avoid possible lines at the polls Tuesday by going to one of three elections offices to fill out a mail ballot. Once you complete the ballot, just drop it in the mail ballot box.
Want to vote today instead of Tuesday? Three Pinellas County Elections Offices will be open until 5 p.m. today. The offices are located in Clearwater, Largo and St. Petersburg. Voters will be able to fill out one of the mail ballots that are available at the elections office. You just need to complete the mail ballot, then insert it into the mail ballot drop-off box at the elections office. Patch stopped by the elections office at the Clearwater Courthouse on Sunday afternoon. There were no lines and the staff was very helpful. Early voting for Pinellas County voters in the Nov. 6 General Election ends at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. A state law last year changed the dates for early voting, which now begins 10 days prior to and ends three days prior to an election. Early voting is conducted from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Nov. 3 at all Supervisor of Elections offices. “To avoid lines, voters can request a mail ballot and vote in the comfort of their homes. The Department of Justice sent a letter to Florida Monday ordering the state to halt its voter purge or face going to court.
The Department of Justice is planning to sue the state of Florida for refusing to stop its non-citizen voter purge. U.S. Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez sent a letter Monday to Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner stating that Florida's decision to continue purging its voting rolls would leave the DOJ no choice but to take the Sunshine State to court. New county precinct lines submitted by Supervisor of Elections Deborah Clark in compliance with Florida Statute 101.001 were approved Tuesday by the Pinellas Board of County Commissioners.
