UPDATE: Police Shoot Man Firing Assault Rifle

UPDATE, 10:33 p.m. Sunday A Clearwater man who fired at police with an assault rifle was shot by two officers "who feared for their life," according to a statement by Clearwater Police Sunday night. The suspect, who lived on the 2200 block of Glenmoor Road North, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. Police were called to the home after 7 p.m. Sunday by a family member, who asked officers to do a welfare check on the man. The suspect's 15-year-old son was in the house during the shooting, according to police, who interviewed the teen later. He was not injured in the shooting.
