I'm a new owner trying to open in downtown and am getting nothing but obstacles. We are opening the Atrium (new name is The Loft). We had to jump through hoops and call meeting with city employees and nothing. We signed the lease on Halloween, minimal remodel. We were postponed by city missing out on numerous Christmas parties, New Years Eve, three blast Fridays. Not to mention trying to bring new life to downtown. Even after we fix what we are asked to they find more things. When we ask what we need 100 percent to open they say your engineer can answer that and I quote "it's not our job to tell you how to do it but to tell you when it's wrong." We are about $70,000 into it and don't know what to do. We have a meeting on Monday at 4 p.m. …

Subject: Political Vandalism Matt Rhoads, Campaign Manager Mitt Romney for President 2012 585 Commercial Street Boston, Massachusetts 02109-1024 Dear Mr. Rhoads, We are supporters of President Obama. We’ve demonstrated our political opinion by placing yard signage in the front yard of our home and a small sticker on the back window of our auto. Unfortunately, last night someone “vandalized” our property by removing the auto sticker and stealing the two yard signs. Previously, one of the plastic yard signs was “punched out” in an attempt to destroy the signage. We have to assume that this damage was done by political supporters of Governor Romney since he is the President’s main competitor in the upcoming election. We’re writing to ask you …

One more big difference between a horse race and the Pinellas County sheriff’s race is that betting on your favorite horse doesn’t affect the outcome of the race. Your vote for the right person does.

A lot may be said for comparing a tight political race to a horse race. There seems to be enough likeness between the two contests to allow for a plausible analogy. So let’s look at some of the more obvious similarities; competitors don’t necessarily enter the starting gate on an equal basis. For the moment, we’ll discount age as a factor in horse racing since horses are usually matched closely by age because it’s unfair to run a young horse full of energy against an older steed whose legs have grown a bit shorter with time. What we really want to look at on our racing form at the running of the 2012 Pinellas County Downs Sheriff’s Stake is recent past performance. We’re going to place our bet on the competitor that has shown the best …

This letter to the editor came in response to the story Burned But Still On Top of The World.
I am visiting your beautiful area, but not for a vacation. My Mother was displaced due to the fire exactly three months ago today (March 28) at On Top of the World, in beautiful Clearwater. It would be wonderful to be able to open the windows to let some of that fresh air in, but the condition of the environment here at OTOW, will not allow that. Mom could not return until her unit was acceptable with her breathing condition. Neither the exterior or interior has been cleaned let alone repaired, hence the closed windows. The pictures that appeared in your Dec. 27 issue could have been taken today. OTOW removed the the flag stand I installed several years ago, and placed a couple pegs on the exterior wall, so Mom can "display" her flag …

Bill Horne should disclose he is the City Manager when posting here. I would add that the man has had over a decade to fix things still broke.... like all politicians they talk a good talk - but then walk like a crippled. http://www.sptimes.com/News/071501/NorthPinellas/Bill_Horne_is_ready_t.shtml   more ›
