Gallery: Giant Bagel Menorah on Clearwater Beach

About 100 people came out to see the Chabad of Clearwater giant bagel menorah Tuesday as well as enjoy traditional Chanukah fare, including latkes and doughnuts, in celebration of the fourth night of the Festival of Lights.

About 100 people came out to see the Chabad of Clearwater giant bagel menorah Tuesday as well as enjoy traditional Chanukah fare, including latkes and doughnuts, in celebration of the fourth night of the Festival of Lights. Rabbi Levi Hodakov said there were hundreds of bagels used in the making of the seven-foot-tall menorah. Dallas "the fire guy" Saupe lit up the night with a fire show and his son performed escape tricks. Want more local news headlines? Chabad of Clearwater will light a seven foot tall bagel-shaped menorah to kick off the Chanukah season at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in front of the Surf Style, 311 S Gulfview Blvd.

Hanukkah 2012 in Clearwater

Celebrate the Festival of Lights in Clearwater with fun events and delicious recipes.

This year, Hanukkah begins on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8, and ends a week later on Sunday, Dec. 16. According to Chabad.org, Hanukkah starts on the Hebrew calendar date of 25 Kislev and lasts for eight days. For those of us who aren't attuned to the Jewish calendar, that translates to sundown on Saturday, Dec. 8.  Clearwater area Hanukkah celebrations include Chanukah on Ice at Westfield Countryside Mall on Dec. 9 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. and a Grand Menorah Lighting on Clearwater Beach on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m.  Here's more information from the Chabad of Pinellas County website.
