Ex-Scientology Official: Church Spent Millions to Cover Up Death

Recently filed court papers allege the Church of Scientology spent up to $30 million on perks to influence judges and attorneys in the wake of church member Lisa McPherson's death in 1995.

A former Church of Scientology official claims the organization spent up to $30 million to cover up the 1995 death of Lisa McPherson in Clearwater, according to an ABC Action News reports. The Tampa attorney who represented McPherson's family after she died, told the news station he has sworn statements from Scientology's former No. 2 in charge, Marty Rathbun, alleging that the church spent lavishly on perks to try to influence judges and attorneys in the McPherson case. Attorney Ken Dandar is now being sued by the Church of Scientology, which says Dandar failed to adhere to a settlement agreement from the McPherson wrongful death suit that said he would never again represent someone suing Scientology, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Clearwater Woman's Death Under Investigation

Detectives are investigating after a Clearwater area woman was found unresponsive by her roommate and later pronounced dead.

Updated, 4:47 p.m.: The victim has been identified as Adrianne F. Robert, 29, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Officials also clarified that it was Robert's male roommate, not her boyfriend, who found her unresponsive Saturday morning.   Earlier: Detectives are investigating the death of Clearwater woman who was found unresponsive by her boyfriend early Saturday morning, according to authorities. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is on the scene at a home in the 2900 block of Pinecone Circle in unincorporated Clearwater, authorities said.
