Rainy Earth Day Gives Way to Sunny Skies

While the week is expected to have a wet start, forecasters say a dry stretch is on the way.

Rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for the kickoff of the workweek, but forecasters say Clearwater residents shouldn’t expect that to last long. Monday’s rains are expected to give way to a week of rising temperatures and dry conditions. “The rest of the week stays dry until next Sunday (when there’s) a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon,” said Richard Rude, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Ruskin office. Highs throughout the week are expected to climb to into the mid- to upper-80s range. Lows will only fall to the lower 60s at the lowest. While a nice week is on the horizon, residents should prepare for some potentially hazardous conditions on Monday, April 22. Rude said Monday would deliver mostly …

Tornado Watch Issued For Clearwater

The National Weather Service is asking residents to be mindful of conditions as they go about their day, Feb. 26.

A tornado watch is in effect in Clearwater through 3 p.m. today, Feb. 26. According to the National Weather Service’s Ruskin office, that means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. Meteorologist Rick Davis says the threat of severe weather is possible later this morning and into this afternoon as “kind of a squall line will move through the area. The potential is there for isolated tornadoes and damaging wind gusts.” Thunderstorms are also possible. Davis urges Clearwater residents to keep an eye on the weather as they go through their day. If a tornado warning is issued for the area it means a tornado has been spotted and residents should “seek safety until the warning passes.” While today’s weather is less than …

Gloomy Skies Give Way to Sunny, Chilly Weekend in Clearwater

Forecasters are calling for rain to clear out as the long Presidents Day weekend approaches.

Grab a coat if you’re heading out in Clearwater today, Feb. 15. The National Weather Service’s Ruskin office says the cold front that pushed through the area yesterday, causing some heavy rains and gusty winds, is likely to create more storms on Thursday and possibly again on Friday. Meteorologist Robert Garcia says rain chances diminish on Friday, but sprinkles are still possible. Overnight Friday, things start to clear out, and Garcia says there’s a nice weekend in store for Tampa Bay. Highs around the mid-60s are expected through much of the weekend. A cooling trend is anticipated on Saturday and Sunday before things heat up on Monday. Lows in the overnight hours Saturday dip down to the mid 40s with a high on Sunday only expected to …

Cold Nights, Cool Days Ahead for Clearwater

Expect some near-freezing temperature overnight on Thursday and a few cooler days before things start to heat up again.

Grab those jackets and pull out an extra blanket from the linen closest – this morning’s cold temperatures were just a taste of what’s in store for Clearwater over the next few days. According to the National Weather Service, Clearwater residents should brace for a few more chilly days ahead before things start to warm up again going into the weekend. Low temperatures overnight Thursday, Jan. 31, are expected to dip into the mid 40s with a high today of 62. Friday’s weather is much the same with only a warming of a degree or two expected during the day and in the overnight hours. Things do start to heat up as the weekend progresses. Look for highs in the lower 70s and lows in the mid-40s through Monday. Rain isn’t in the forecast over the …

Flooding Potential High in Pinellas

Warnings and watches have been issued in counties across Central Florida.

Tropical Storm Isaac is still days away, but the potential for flooding in Pinellas County is more of an immediate concern, say forecasters at the National Weather Service. A flood watch has been issued for the county through Wednesday night, Aug. 22. This means that flooding is possible within the next 24 to 36 hours. Nicole Carlisle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said the flooding threat doesn’t come from Tropical Storm Isaac. Rather, it’s from a “stalled frontal boundary over us, and we’re expecting more rain today.” Rainfall amounts of at least 2 to 3 inches, and possibly more this evening, are likely across the region, according to the NWS forecast. Residents living in flood prone areas are warned to take action …
