Toilet Theft Suspect Sought by Police

Toilet valves were taken from the men's restroom at the Clearwater Main Library, a Checkers and McDonald's Restaurant in Clearwater, following similar crimes at two Dunedin locations.

The toilets in the men's restroom at the Clearwater Main Library and two fast food restaurants were victimized by thieves last week, following similar crimes at two Dunedin locations. Toilet flush valves were reported stolen from the Clearwater library last Thursday, the same day valves were also taken from a restroom at the Dunedin Historical Society and Museum, according to Bay News 9. The Checkers on Gulf to Bay Boulevard and McDonald's at 539 S Missouri Ave also were hit, according to Clearwater Police. "(Investigators) have developed a suspect and are working to locate him at this time," Elizabeth Watts, Clearwater Police spokeswoman said in an email. Whoo Hoo! We're giving a big welcome shout to the Clearwater Library. The staff will be blogging about the fun activities at the library and books that they recommend you read this summer!

The Clearwater Library is a buzz with lots of fun activities this summer. Clearwater Patch is proud to be teaming up with the library for our summer reading club. Throughout the summer, the staff at the Clearwater Library will be blogging on Patch to let you know about suggested books to read and other fun programs offered at the library. It's a great way to beat the summer heat. Cool activities the library will be offering this summer include exploring all things nocturnal, planets, owls, stars and spooky stories! Letter to the Editor: Funding Florida's Multi-Type Library Cooperative

Gov. Rick Scott vetoed funding for the multi-type library cooperatives which give support to libraries across the state. What does this mean for the Clearwater Public Library System?

What libraries do best is share. One book is purchased and many people can get to read it. But at heart, we are all local agencies, serving our individual city or county, school or academic institution.  The Florida Multi-type Library Cooperatives, or MLC’s, help us step beyond our local boundaries by helping us share our resources more effectively. The MLC’s are 501©3 non-profit organizations, but their basic operation was supported by the State of Florida because the state saw the benefit of trying to make every item in the state available to every person in the state.   This year, Gov. Rick Scott vetoed funding for the MLC’s. There was no reason given for this veto, and it was totally unexpected. This will mean that these five library …
