Nearly 15 Clearwater Beach Association members came out to talk about recent sand dune destruction with city leaders this week. A Clearwater Patch reader shares his experiences trying to operate a low-speed, charter vehicle service on Clearwater Beach. A Clearwater Sweetbay Supermarket is among 33 under-performing stores in Florida scheduled to close in Feburary, the grocer's parent company announced Wednesday. Are you sad to see it go? Buccaneers Field in North Greenwood Set to Expand

The latest phase to bring ballfields to North Greenwood include a practice space at Buccaneers Field with lights and fencing that should be ready for play by the summer.

The Greenwood Panthers went from homeless to an athletic valhalla. The football and cheerleading program was without a field since environmental concerns closed the Philip Jones field a few years ago. The teams played home games at Clearwater Central Catholic, Clearwater High School, Countryside High School and Dunedin High School. A piece of the Panthers' nearly $500,000 home was unveiled at a groundbreaking ceremony for Buccaneers Field that included players Josh Freeman, Gerald McCoy and Clearwater local Leonard Johnson. This week, Kevin Dunbar, parks and recreation director, said the second phase, which includes a practice field, lights, fencing and parking lot improvements, should be ready for the Panthers to play on in just a few …

Greenwood Parking Lot Could Become Athletic Fields

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board would like the city council to find out the feasibility of changing the lot into soccer or football fields and at least one baseball field.

Jonathan Wade remembers growing up playing baseball near Jack Russell Stadium.  Ballfields were once just a foul ball away from where Phillies greats trained during the spring, Wade said. And now, with the city’s aquatic center and soon-to-be expanded North Greenwood Recreation Center, it seems only natural to develop the old parking lot and former landfill fields into an athletic Valhalla. Wade and members of the city’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board would at least like to find out what it would take to do so. In the next month, the board is going to ask city leaders to find out the feasibility of developing the old parking lot near Jack Russell Stadium into multi-use fields.
