Baseball is not just a game. It is an economic driver, from the tourists who journey to the Sunshine State to take in a game, to the grounds crews, ticket takers and concessionaires who depend on those salaries. As the 67th spring training season in Clearwater comes to a close on a brisk spring Thursday, March 28, baseball seems as popular as ever. Roy Halladay gets a final Spring Training tune up when he starts for the Phillies against the Blue Jays in the final Grapefruit League game Thursday at Bright House Field. Brandon Morrow is expected to start for the Blue Jays, according to mlb.com. Sergio Santos and Brett Cecil are also expected to pitch. Halladay's performace has been a question. He allowed 11 of 18 batters to reach base in a minor league game Saturday, March 23 at the Carpenter Complex, according to mlb.com. Before that, he picked up a no decision after giving up a hit, a walk and a strikeout before leaving after an inning with a stomach virus against the Orioles March 17. There are only a couple Spring Training games left.
Catch the Phillies and the Blue Jays in a battle of the Kyles at 1:05 p.m. today. After all, there are only a couple of Grape Fruit league games left. Right-hander Kyle Kendrick gets the start for the Phillies, according to Major League Baseball. And the Blue Jays will send top prospect Kyle Drabek to the mound.
