Gov. Mitt Romney expounded on his 5-point plan during a speech in Tampa Wednesday. Notables in the crowd included former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco, a Democrat.
Gov. Mitt Romney Romney took the stage to a roar of applause just before 11 a.m. Wednesday in front of a crowd of thousands who waited in a chilly airplane hangar for the presidential candidate’s arrival in Tampa. Wearing a black-and-white striped tie and his sleeves rolled up, Romney looked more informal than in previous appearances. “My view is straight forward, I believe this is the time for America to take a different course,” Romney told the crowd. “With 23 million Americans struggling to find a good job, this is something that requires a different path than we've been on. “I will bring real change,” Romney said. “Real reform." Wednesday’s Tampa stop is among a trifecta of Florida visits for the presidential candidate who will be …

With Election Day just a week away, we want to hear from you!
Next week at this time people throughout the United States will turn out at the polls to have their say on who occupies the Oval Office for the next four years. With the election just around the corner, we wanted to check in with you, Tampa Bay, to see who has your support for the job. Will you vote for President Barack Obama to retain his seat? Is Gov. Mitt Romney your man? Maybe you’re throwing your support behind a third-party candidate? Whatever the case, we want to hear your thoughts. Back on Oct. 1, we asked you the same questions. In our unofficial poll of Patch readers, Romney took the lead. Out of 296 votes cast in our poll, the former Massachusetts governor took 169, or 57 percent of the vote. Obama had 115 votes cast in his …

Gov. Mitt Romney spoke about the need for change during his Oct. 27 rally in Pasco County's Land O' Lakes.
Many of those who filled the bleachers and field at former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's rally might say it was the winds of change blowing through the Land O' Lakes High School stadium Saturday. A cool breeze made the hours-long wait for the Republican presidential candidate's appearance a pleasant one. People from all over the Bay area and beyond began lining up as early as 2 p.m. to enter the John Benedetto Stadium for Romney's evening appearance. Saturday was the first day of early voting, and many in the crowd affirmed that they had indeed already voted when asked by Congressman Connie Mack, who introduced Romney to the packed stadium. He didn’t miss the opportunity to stump for his own campaign for Senate against Democrat Bill …

President Barack Obama's rally was held this morning in Centennial Park.
On Thursday morning before an energized crowd of thousands of supporters, President Barack Obama made a stop at Ybor City's Centennial Park during a campaign tour that stretched from Iowa to Virginia. After cheers from the crowd, he took the stage around 9 a.m., first thanking Tampa Bay residents for getting up early this morning to see him. Then, he joked about casting his own ballot later today. "I'm going to stop in Chicago, and do some early voting in Chicago," Obama said. "I can't tell you who I'm voting for. It's a secret ballot. Michelle (Obama) said she's voting for me." He moved on to address more serious matters during the "America Forward!" grassroots rally, talking about the importance of trust. He spoke between chants of "Four…

As President Barack Obama makes his way to Tampa for an Oct. 25 rally, organizers and law enforcement have some advice to pass along to Bay area residents.
Whether you’re making your way to Ybor City’s Centennial Park to hear President Barack Obama speak Oct. 25 or you just need to drive through the area, there are some things you need to know. Getting into the 1800 E. 8th Ave. park is going to require not only a ticket, but also a pass through security screening, said Lacey Rose, a spokeswoman for the Obama campaign. “It’s kind of like airport security,” she said. With that in mind, she cautioned those who plan on going should leave things like umbrellas, backpacks, large bags and drinks at home. “We will be handing out water outside to the people in the lines and we’ll have water inside, as well,” Rose said. “They do search everything you do bring in.” Here’s what else you need to know: The…
Both campaigns reached out to voters and the media during and after the third presidential debate Oct. 22.
It’s not uncommon for presidential campaigns to send out emails to supporters and the media during a national debate. After all, it’s a great way to reiterate a candidate’s message and make sure it’s sent out loud and clear. President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney’s campaigns both used the mass email tactic during and after the third and final debate Oct. 22. The headlines on the messages sent out, however, tell their own story — so do the number of emails sent. Obama’s campaign sent out eight emails during and after the debate. The subject lines included: On the flipside, the Romney campaign sent out two emails. The first was released under Vice Presidential hopeful Paul Ryan’s name. Its subject line was: “Help Make America Strong …

The two presidential contenders faced off for a third and final debate Oct. 22. We want your take on how they did.
Did President Barack Obama walk away with the win in tonight’s debate? Perhaps you think former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney knocked it out of the park with his answers on foreign policy? Whatever the case, Tampa Bay, we want to hear from you! Did Obama’s stand on America's prominence in the world today ring true to you? "America remains the one indispensable nation,” Obama said. “The world needs a strong America and it’s stronger now than when I came into office.” Maybe you related more to Romney’s assertion that American effectiveness abroad has fallen? “Nowhere in the world is America’s influence greater today than it was four years ago,” Romney said. How do you think America is doing on the foreign policy front? Which candidate do …
As President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney prepare to square off in a final debate before Election Day, we want to know what you hope to hear from the candidates.
It’s coming down to the wire for President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney. With only weeks left until the Nov. 6 election, both campaigns are counting on tonight’s debate to enable them to send the message home and swing voters to their sides. The presidential race is turning into a cliffhanger, with Florida voters playing a key role in deciding the next Commander in Chief. Who will ultimately win the race for the White House? It remains a mystery, but we want to hear from you Tampa Bay! What are you expecting from Obama and Romney in tonight’s debate? Is there a particular issue you’d like the candidates to discuss? What answers on that issue would make you vote for one candidate over the other? Who do you think will win the evening? …

The campaign is calling the event a “grassroots rally,” but has released few other details.
President Barack Obama kicks off a two-day whirlwind campaign tour this Wednesday with stops in six battleground states, including one in Tampa. Dubbed the “America Forward!” tour, the campaign blitz is designed to help the president reach “as many voters as possible about the critical choice in this election -- moving America forward toward an economy built to last with a strong middle class versus going back to the same policies that crashed our economy in the first place,” a campaign media release states. The tour starts in Iowa on Oct. 24 and includes rallies in Denver and Las Vegas that day. On Thursday, Obama will appear in Tampa before making stops in other states. The Tampa event is described as a “grassroots rally.” The campaign …

Tampa Bay area political influencers weigh in on the second presidential debate.
While political analysts scramble to name a winner in the Oct. 16 debate between President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney, Patch’s Florida sites took a different approach. We surveyed 136 influential conservatives and liberals immediately following the debate and asked them their thoughts on the biggest moments of the evening. One Democratic respondent wrote, “The president is a real person, one who cares about the future.” One conservative, who felt Romney won by a wide margin, said, “Obama is a good talker, but he has four years of a record for us to look at.” A Democrat who felt that Obama won by a slim margin said, “All Romney wants to cut are Big Bird and Planned Parenthood.” Another “Blue Tampa Bay” respondent felt that Obama won …
