A Duval County School Board member thinks kids should be able to fight back if they're attacked in school.
Harold Sultzbaugh June 18, 2014 at 10:55 am
Common sense should prevail in these cases. That is, OF COURSE the child(or adult) should fight back!Read More I know from experience that a strong reaction from the bullied(me) ended the problem, and afterward I was treated with respect. There is NO other reasonable solution to bullying. Harold Sultzbaugh

Just "turn the other cheek" NEVER works! Bullies know the rules (disobey them likeRead More "guidelines" as to just how far they can bully!) Victim HAS to be able to defend! Is this current rule enforced by "Pro-Life" people? If you really care for life, DEFEND IT and peoples right to defend themselves!

Difficult issue. As a child in an inner city school in Philadelphia, fighting in the school yardRead More was pretty commonplace. Typically a teacher would pull the kids apart and chase them to their next class. Sometimes a trip to the Principal's office and a scolding. Now such fights are often criminalized and the parents are brought into it and the whole business is blown out of proportion. I agree with the Superintendent, no fighting can be tolerated. Especially with easy access to weapons and the potential for dangerous repercussions. I would suggest investigating who triggered the altercation for appropriate discipline. There should be a clear policy to punish bullies.

As a school Nurse assigned to a cluster school with high population of autistic and ESE children, IRead More do think monitors need to be in place. These children are very fragile people and while I will never excuse nor condone striking a child, I understand how it can happen. I think a thorough background check needs to be done during the employment process.

We have to make people aware that our State is run by public employee Unions and we need court casesRead More like today which ruled that the California Teacher Tenure rules are unconstitutional so that we can change laws and vote people out of office who do not represent the interests of the public who pay the taxes.

Something that is interesting to note is that high school grads are going to four year universitiesRead More and studying subject that isn't marketable. While on the other hand you have people getting vocational training at vocational schools that essentially guarantees them a job out of school that will make them 'x' amount of money. So it isn't that college degrees are worthless, some are. It is also said that sometimes trade school is the right choice! Oh, and Mr. Slob, if indeed you are a Countryside color guard parent, well, that speaks volumes asRead More to why the program is failing. Instead of snarky remarks, how about posting your "knowledge" as to why the color guard is failing with facts and bullet points. After all, if you are a parent that attends ALL the meetings, then pray tell, enlighten us.

Hey Bert, how about you telling us how your wonderful "Rival" school makes all the moneyRead More to keep it such a successful program since you don't like my comment on why this one is not... After all, you surely can provide your "bullet points" since you are all knowing..
Bert Houghton August 14, 2013 at 02:30 pm
Just what I thought. You haven't any facts to post. And here I gave you the opportunity to redeemRead More yourself and prove that you can provide and back up your claims. Oh well. That's ok. You just keep on trolling as it is obvious that is is what you excel in since you seem to have a comment on almost every article on this site. And the only true "rivalry" is you against the world. When you can have a healthy disagreement that lists facts without name calling, by all means do so. I truly would like to hear them. Until then, Ta Ta and have a happy day!
