<p>Clearwater Intermediate is a dropout prevention school for students in grades 5 to 8.</p>
<p>The school utilizes integrated studies and small class sizes--with a maximum of 18 students.</p> <p>Integrated classes have a 90-minute period combining language arts, social studies and science. Other class time is spent studying math and reading. Rotating electives are offered during a 60-minute class period as well.</p> <p>School instruction is based on the <a href="http://sage.pinellas.k12.fl.us/sss.htm">Sunshine State</a> <a href="http://sage.pinellas.k12.fl.us/sss.htm">Standards</a> and <a href="http://sage.pinellas.k12.fl.us/default.htm">Pinellas County Student Expectations</a>.</p> <p>Extracurricular activities include music, drum line, art, Principal's Multicultural Advisory Committee, Student Council, mentoring and volunteering opportunities and <a href="http://www.pcsb.org/volunteers/rolemodels.html">5000 Role Models of Excellence</a>.</p> <p>The school support staff includes three guidance counselors, a psychologist, an achievement specialist, a social worker, speech therapist, behavior and violence prevention specialists, a school resource officer and learning lab, media and technology specialists.</p> <p>The school media center features more than 6,000 items including current magazines, graphic novels and fiction and non-fiction titles. The computer lab features 27 computers with Internet access. </p> <p>The school mission is "to help students reach their highest achievement level in a safe, supportive environment by increasing academic focus through an integrated curriculum and expanded student services."</p>
