Local Banker Paddles Against Cancer

Gene Evans and about 200 other local stand-up paddleboarders helped raised over $30,000 for the Moffitt Cancer Center recently.

"Evans was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer in May 2009, and since then has recovered from four surgeries – including one to remove a tumor on his spine and another to remove one of his kidneys," according to a post on Patch.

The Stage 4 kidney cancer survivor and senior vice-president at Clearwater-based USAmeriBank, started the paddleboarding event in 2011 to thank Moffitt and support other cancer survivors.
