I just moved here from Hawaii in which I lived nine months. My daughter is in the Navy and asked me to come and live with her. I sold everything I owned and packed a suitcase. I did send 15 boxes through the post office. I lived in Tucson for more than 30 years before last Dec. 2. I owned The Ye Olde Clock Shoppe for 10 years before I sold it.
Besides doing the regular business stuff during the day, I had a hobby at night and weekends. eBay.
I called eBay my hobby. After selling just about anything I could in my house to sell, I decided to mention it to customers. After a while, I had a full-time, part-time hobby. I offered my customers my services of selling for them at a 50/50 split on the profits. I felt that was fair, I had to take the stuff in, list it on eBay, sell and then ship it.
When people snubbed their nose, "why should you get 50 percent?" I would say 'that's OK, you can do it then' "but I don't have a computer and I don't know how to do eBay"... I said 'exactly,' they did succumb.
I made a lot of money but slowed down since I knew I was moving. I did sell a used pair of flip flops I wore one weekend. After the bidding went over what I paid for them, I stopped the bidding and sold them. So, they were free to me!
Last year in the dead of a hot and humid summer in Tucson, I sold a full length wool mens coat. This certain customer would drive up to the store, he was always on his cell phone, so I would run out and take his items and he would drive away. Nothing was really ever said between us. Except when I called him and told him to come pick up his $400 check for his half of the coat! Who can sell a wool coat in the dead of summer in Tucson? This girl.
Another thing to keep in mind is quantity vs. quality. Sometimes it's just as easy to sell a lot of little items and get a paycheck vs. selling one item for the same amount. Remember, just because your grandmother collected items in the 20's, doesn't mean people want to collect it now.
If you know anyone who needs money, has too much stuff, wants to downsize, please let me know. Now that I am retired, I have plenty of time and love doing it. My name is Viki Watson and my email is firstname.lastname@example.org or you can call me at 520-349-9580. I have 776 stars on Ebay which means I have either sold or bought at least that many items.
