Update: The was completely cancelled earlier today due to Tropical Storm Debby. The organizers are currently reviewing their plan for how to proceed and will make an announcement in the next few days.

The triathlon has encountered storms in the past. In 2011, they cancelled the bike portion and delayed the swim due to a severe thunderstorm that moved onshore early in the morning on race day. In 2008, severe weather forced a cancellation of the race.

Elizabeth Hardy, a spokesperson for Morton Plant told us, "Adapting to weather is always a part of the plan and we consistently review our plans to see if there are ways to improve". "We apologize to competitors for any inconvenience the cancellation may have caused and thank our volunteers and staff for their help in adapting to this morning's quickly detoriating conditions and helping to break down the race set up".
