Retired Major Leaguer Recovering in Clearwater After Brain Surgery

Darren Daulton, a Clearwater resident, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Darren Daulton, the former major league All Star, is recuperating at his Clearwater area home after undergoing surgery to remove two brain tumors.

USA Today is reporting that the former Phillies catcher has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. The cancer has a survival rate of 14 months to 3 years.

Daulton, 51, had surgery on July 1 and will have radiation treatment in Florida, according to his website. The tumors were discovered by doctors on June 27.

The following statement was posted to his Home Page:

"Darren and his family wish to thank everyone for their loving support throughout this difficult time. He is deeply touched. In typical fashion, he again said, “Right on; Fight on.” Darren and his family request that everyone respect his privacy and that of his family during this period of time."
