The first season for the Advanced Intermediate 50-70 Clearwater Little League baseball team yielded a championship for the 11-13 year old players.

The District 12 Intermediate All-Star Championship game was July 6 at East Lake Little League.

East Lake did not allow a single batter to reach base until the fourth inning. There was an offensive spark in the sixth inning and Clearwater rallied for the victory, according to coach Ric Ortega.

This year was the first season for the Advanced Intermediate 50-70 Little League Baseball team, he said.

The division is designed for players 11 to 13 years old. The rules are similar to high school baseball in that players can use big barrel bats, there are lead offs for stealing and pick-offs and balks called.

The field size, 50 feet to the pitching mound and 70 foot base paths, falls right between Little League, 46 feet to the mound and 60 foot bases and high school, 60.5 foot pitching mound and 90 foot bases.
