Eight Run Second Inning Propels Threshers To Big Win

Cyle Hankerd knocks in four as Threshers hammer Manatees 11-4.

The Clearwater Threshers fell behind 3-0 before they scored eight runs in the bottom of the second and defeated the Brevard County Manatees 11-4 on Tuesday (August 23).

Cyle Hankerd flew out to begin the inning but tripled with the bases loaded scoring the final three runs with only one out.

The twenty-six year old Southern California alum knocked in four runs on the night improving his batting average to .246 in 17 games with Clearwater.

First-baseman Darin Ruf knocked in three runs with his 38th double of the year.

Right-hander Trevor May picked up his 10th win of the season continuing his strikeout assault on Florida State League hitters with eight more in six innings of work. Unfortunately for May he walked four batters of which three came home to score.

On Deck: The same two teams meet again on Wednesday at , first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Threshers remain three and half games back of the Dunedin Blue Jays after the Jays defeated Lakeland 6-1 on Tuesday.

Need to Know: Julio Rodriguez, earned his second FSL Pitcher of the Week award despite going a rare two starts without a win.

The 20-year-old right-hander leads the Minor Leagues with 15 victories and ranks second in the FSL in strikeouts and fifth in ERA.

He tossed seven shutout frames while fanning nine at Lakeland on Friday, yet received no decision for the first time since April 11. An eighth-round pick out of Puerto Rico in 2008, Rodriguez has held opposing hitters to a .196 average in his 24 starts.
