Update: Student Charged With Having Gun at Clearwater High

The 15-year-old student was found to be carrying an unloaded .380-caliber handgun along with ammunition Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. The school was put on lockdown for about 10 minutes until the gun was secured.

A student has been arrestd for carrying a handgun on school grounds at Clearwater High, authorities said Tuesday.

Markazell D. Hodges, 15, is charged with carrying a concealed firearm on school grounds, a felony, as well as disruption of school and violation of probation, according to a news release.

A student reported to the school resource officer that Hodges had a gun, according to Clearwater public safety spokesperson Elizabeth Watts.

The officer located Hodges, pulled him out of class and found he was carrying an unloaded .380-caliber handgun, along with ammunition. The gun was secured and the student was arrested.

The school was put on lockdown for 10 minutes starting at 12:34 p.m. because of the incident.
