A student has been arrestd for carrying a handgun on school grounds at Clearwater High, authorities said Tuesday.

Markazell D. Hodges, 15, is charged with carrying a concealed firearm on school grounds, a felony, as well as disruption of school and violation of probation, according to a news release.

A student reported to the school resource officer that Hodges had a gun, according to Clearwater public safety spokesperson Elizabeth Watts.

I'm surprise that you published the name of a minor.

Thanks Nancy. It's not a decision we take lightly. We opted to name the student for two reasons: He was charged with a felony, as opposed to a misdemeanor; and we felt the right for parents to know if a student their children might share a classroom with had been charged with such a felony and put other students in potential danger outweighed the student's right to privacy. We appreciate your feedback.
