Standing Water is Cause For Clearwater High Evacuation

Maintenance workers thought an odd smell at Clearwater High School was a potential hazard sent the school into an evacuation mode early Thursday morning.

Maintenance workers thinking an odd smell at Clearwater High School was a potential hazard sent the school into a precautionary evacuation mode Thursday morning.

As it turns out, the smell was not a gas leak as a recorded message phone call to student parents first said, but some standing water, said Melanie Marquez Parra, Pinellas County Schools spokeswoman.

The school was evacuated for about 25 minutes she said.
