Free Physicals for High School Athletes

Morton Plant Meese will be offering free physicals for student athletes at two locations.

Morton Plant Mease’s sports medicine program will offer free sports physicals to student athletes at Pinellas County high schools in April.

The exams will include checks of height, weight, blood pressure, vision, lungs and musculoskeletal system.

Physicians, certified athletic trainers and physical therapists will administer the physicals. Pediatric cardiac nurses will be available for heart health screenings.

The Morton Plant Mease Lung Center will also be on hand to offer students information on managing asthma symptoms. If a student is found to have a medical condition and needing additional treatment, the student will be referred to a Morton Plant Mease specialist at a later date.

The free sports physicals will be offered on the following dates at two locations:

  • Saturday, April 28, 2012: 8 a.m. to Noon, Morton Plant Hospital Ptak Orthopaedic & Neuroscience Pavilion, 430 Morton Plant St, Suite 101 
  • Saturday, May 5, 2012: 8 a.m. to Noon, Palm Harbor University High School, 1900 Omaha Street, Palm Harbor

The sports physicals will be administered on a first come, first served basis.  All student athletes are required by the Florida High School Athletic Association to complete a physical evaluation before participating in high school sporting activities.

Student athletes under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or registration forms must be pre-signed. The exams done by Morton Plant Mease are complimentary, however, a small fee may be required by some schools to support their booster clubs.
