Former Countryside Kicker Gets Collegiate Honor

The freshman at Ave Maria University is turning some NAIA heads.

One of Countryside's former athletes was recently honored for his athletic skills at the collegiate level.

Ave Maria University in Naples, an NAIA division school, selected freshman kicker Ryan Halter as its athlete of the week (ending Oct. 16).

Halter “nailed a 45-yard field goal attempt facing a strong right to left wind” against Notre Dame College of Ohio earlier that week, the university’s website says.

The kick also landed him some recognition. He was named to the NAIA Special Teams Athlete of the Week Nominees list on Oct. 17.

Mother Kelley Halter said Topher Noun, one of Dunedin High School's JV coaches, gave her son his first start in kicking as a Jr Falcon. Halter is on a football scholarship at Ave Maria.
