Seminar: Innovations in Heart Valve Procedures

Morton Plant Mease cardiovascular surgeons John Ofenloch, M.D., and Joshua Rovin, M.D., discuss treating heart-valve disease and a new innovation in heart-valve procedures called transcatheter aortic valve replacement surgery, or TAVR.

According to a news release, TAVR is a breakthrough treatment option for patients with severe aortic stenosis that was previously considered inoperable. Aortic stenosis is a disease process that prevents the heart's aortic valve from opening and closing properly, forcing the heart to work harder, which weakens the heart’s muscles and increases a person's risk for heart failure, organizers say.
