Student Brings Gun to Clearwater High, Officials Say

The high school went on lockdown for about 10 minutes after a student was found to be carrying a gun, officials said. The lockdown is over and the weapon was secured.

Update, 2:36 p.m.: A 15-year-old student has been arrested and charged with bringing a handgun and ammunition to Clearwater High on Tuesday, officials said.

Clearwater High School went on lockdown for about 10 minutes Tuesday afternoon after a student was found carrying a gun, officials said.

A student reported to the school resource officer that another student had a gun, according to Clearwater public safety spokesperson Elizabeth Watts.

The officer located the student, pulled him or her out of class and found and secured the weapon, Watts said.

The lockdown started at 12:34 and ended at 12:44.

Officers are speaking to the student at this time. Further information was not immediately available.
