We want to take the pulse of Patch readers as we lead up to our July 17 Pinellas County Sheriff candidates debate.

As the race for Pinellas County Sheriff heats up, we want to take the pulse of Patch readers.

Each week leading up to the Patch-sponsored Pinellas County Sheriff's candidate debate, we'll ask a question concerning the election.

This week, we want to know:

What public safety issue concerns you most?

Post your thoughts in the comments section below, and don't forget to watch the candidates debate at 6:30 p.m. July 17 at Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater's Octagon Arts Center, 2470 Nursery Road, or catch Patch's live streaming coverage. The debate is sponsored by Patch, the National Armed Services & Law Enforcement Memorial Museum and Bay News 9.

People driving like lunatics; running red lights, speeding, tailgating, road rage, talking/texting on cellphones. It's getting ridiculous! Cops often seem to look the other way & ignore instead of writing tickets.

In many towns they reinstitued the "Community Officer", essentially an officer walking a beat. The end result was a significant decrease in crime in the areas in which the officer's beat covered and increased public appreciation of the police department. I see this as a win win

Recent news about the pending open carry bill in Florida has some voters concerned about a potential "wild west" setting for "cowboys" openly wearing guns in public while others feel that many states with open carry laws haven't seen any serious problems yet and that it's the Constitutional right for gun properly licensed owners to carry their guns openly. The voters will decide!
