Gingrich Eyes Florida as Key Win

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said that if he wins the Florida Republican Primary, he believes he will be the party's nominee.

Just a few weeks ago, Newt Gingrich hovered in the middle of a crowded field of Republican candidates for president.

He finished fourth in Iowa and fourth in New Hampshire. Then came South Carolina. A new state and a bad debate by then frontrunner Mitt Romney gave Gingrich's campaign new life.

Today, the former Speaker of the House was in St. Petersburg at the Tick Tock Restaurant on 4th Street North for a quick campaign stop. Gingrich hoped to capitilize on the momentum of his surprise win in South Carolina.

For Floridians, Gingrich is comparing the race between himself and Romney to the race for the U.S. Senate seat between former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and Republican Sen. Marco Rubio.

"I thought it was very ironic last night, as many of you know, Jose Mallea is helping us on our campaign," Gingrich said of Rubio's former campaign chief.

"We discovered last night that Mitt Romney has picked up Charlie Crist's campaign team," Gingrich told the audience at the Tick Tock Restaurant Tuesday morning. "I thought that sort of told you everything you needed to know about this primary."

Gingrich went on to say that he believes that if he wins Florida, he will win the GOP nomination.

"If you help me win next Tuesday, I will become the Republican nominee," Gingrich said.

If he does win, Gingrich said that the House and Senate need makeovers, too. He said it is up to Floridians to vote out Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson.

Gingrich spoke for roughly 20 minutes before being whisked away for his next campaign stop, which is in Sarasota.

Gingrich frequently plays fast and loose with his record and the truth. Last night he took credit for balancing the budget for 4 years while it was really only balanced for 2 while he was in office, and that is just one of his tall tails. All the fact checking going on today is quite enlightening. If you really want to know who the true conservative is don't ask the guy who filmed an ad with Nancy Pelosi promoting climate change, called Paul Ryan's medicare plan right wing social engineering and most recently has spent his time misrepresenting Mitt's successful turnaround record and attacking capitalism. Regan conservative... bah! Newt isn't a Washington outsider he is a carrier politician that has spent his life in Washington and the only reason he is still not in Washington is because no one could work with him. He did not walk away, as he stated last night in another unsuccessful try to rewrite history, he resigned in disgrace. Even Ron Paul, who was there, called Gingrich on trying to bend the truth in his favor. It was about time someone called Gingrich on his lies. Gingrich tried his old attack the questioner and side step the truth again but without an audience to interrupt he couldn't get off the hook and he was left speechless. The Liar was caught.

Rage Against the MACHINE - Reject Romney. You know he's the wrong candidate when the MACHINE AND THE MEDIA ARE BEHIND HIM. Don't be used.
