McDonald's Breaks Ground on New Restaurant Near High Point

The new fast food restaurant will be at the entrance of a proposed residential and retail area near the High Point area of unincorporated Clearwater.

Construction starts soon on a new McDonald’s near US 19 and Roosevelt Boulevard.

In about three months after the groundbreaking ceremony May 30 the golden arches should rise.

The new 3,880 square-foot restaurant is at the entrance of the former Crossroads Mall access road. It will eventually share the 1.2-acre parcel with a proposed bank.

Other future development in the Crossroads area could include a Wal-Mart, bus transfer station and a . The master infrastructure permit for that 36-acre parcel will be issued by the City of Largo in about three weeks, according to Karisa Rojas-Norton, program planner.

"At this time, we do not know when construction may start on the Wal-Mart or Gateway North (apartments)," Rojas-Norton wrote in an email.

This will be a great hangout for the homeless of Safe Harbor.

I just really don't think we need another McDonald's or Wal-Mart.

I think it's a perfect spot for McDonald's & Walmart. For those of us who live in that area it's a good 10min drive to the nearest McDonald's, & about 15-20 to a Walmart. I am very happy about both places being built so close to home, thank you.

So by that agrument the St. Pete Super Wal-Mart is 15-20 minutes away on 19, I don't think so. I have no problem other than the increased traffic that I will have to deal with in that section of road on my way to and from work. That area is poorly managed traffic wise at rush hour to begin with and now it will be worse. I hope they are going to work on make the flow of traffic better in that area as well, but I doubt that is part of the plan.
