Beware Of The Red Flag, Dangerous Surf

A red flag at the beach means the waters are treacherous for swimmers.

Beachgoes who take to Clearwater Beach today will notice a single red flag flapping in the seabreeze. That means potential danger lurks.

The single red flag means that the beach is open, but swimmers must pay strict attention to their surroundings and not venture far from shore.

Because of the wake from Tropical Storm Isaac, there is a danger for strong rip tides which could sweep a swimmer away. While lifeguards are on duty, officials from the City of Clearwater urge swimmers to use extreme caution if entering the water.
