Crest Lake Park Neighborhood Stabbing Victim in Critical Condition

Melissa Dohme, 20, was stabbed multiple times in the upper body by her ex-boyfriend early Tuesday morning in the Crest Lake Park neighborhood, according to Clearwater Police.

A Clearwater woman was stabbed multiple times by her ex-boyfriend early Tuesday morning, according to Clearwater Police.

Two witnesses tried to stop the attack on Melissa Dohme at around 3:17 a.m. in the 300 block of S Glenwood Avenue, according to police.

Dohme, 20, was laying in the street when police arrived. She said her attacker was her ex-boyfriend Robert L. Burton, 20, officials said.

Dohme was stabbed multiple times in the upper body and was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries, investigators said. She still is in critical condition.

The witnesses were also able to describe the vehicle Burton was driving before he fled the scene.

A few hours later Burton overdosed on unknown pills and crashed the vehicle in Hudson, according to Florida Highway Patrol who responded to the scene. Burton was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital.

Although unconscious, Burton is in police custody and will be arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder when he recovers. 

Burton has previously been arrested for domestic battery Oct. 25, 2011 and battery Dec. 26, 2011, according to Pinellas County Sheriff's records.
