Warrant Sweep Nets 13 Arrests in Clearwater

Clearwater Police made 13 arrests and evicted 12 people from an East Gateway motel during a warrant sweep early Friday morning.

Clearwater Police made 13 arrests and evicted 12 people from an East Gateway motel during a warrant sweep early Friday morning.

Police worked in partnership with the Florida Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Services and conducted the detail to round up wanted fugitives, according to a release.

"We want to send a clear message that Clearwater is not a place to hide when you're facing felony charges," Clearwater Police Chief Anthony Holloway said in a release.

The arrests resulted in more than 40 criminal charges. There also were 12 people evicted from the Budget Inn Motel and two narcotics arrests, according to police.

"During the warrant roundup operation, two tenants at the Budget Inn Motel were arrested. The motel management elected to evict the remainder of the people in the room at the time of the arrest," Joelle Castelli, police spokeswoman said in an email. "If a motel management company decides that they no longer want the tenants of a room to be there, they can elect to evict them immediately."

Designated teams conducted a systematic, city-wide sweep for wanted fugitives and vice and narcotics charges. Probations and parole units were able to conduct numerous contacts, predator checks, Department of Corrections checks and judges arrest orders.

Classy place, renting one room to more than a dozen people! How about plice shut ths place down? Here is a 1 star customer review from a rating site: Wish I could give is less. This place is a pit!!! There are prostitutes all over that look like they're one disease away from hazmat removal. Hood rats all over the place. And if you think you're safe by just shutting your door, don't count on it. The pool which is in the parking lot, has been hit by drunk drivers. Windows are missing or busted in the rooms. And that picture that says 'Why pay more on beach rates?'....because you will end up paying much more in doctor's bills after staying in this dive. DON'T DO IT!!!!!:
