The Main Event: National Night Out

Meeting first responders, learning tips against crime prevention amid food and fun highlight's today's Main Event.

It's an odd mix: crime prevention, safety tips, food and fun. That's what can be found at Clearwater's National Night Out.

The National Night Out is an effort to combine outreach between Clearwate's first responders and citizens with a goal of building bonds to help prevent crime.

But that's not all. The National Night Out is sort of a celebration of first responders. Thanks to a large collection of businesses and retailers, it's almost a street fair.

The Clearwater National Night Out will be held at the Super Target parking lot at the Clearwater Mall, 2747 Gulf to Bay Blvd. The event begins at 5 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m.

* Child safety seat inspections and demonstrations
* Document shredding service provided by Costco and Proshred
* Crime Prevention home items (courtesy Lowe's & CPD)
* General safety awareness and crime prevention info
* Boating safety information (courtesy US Coast Guard)
