Teen Bicyclist Injured in Crash Did Not Have Lights, Deputies Say

A 16-year-old Clearwater boy sustained non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Main Street and New York Avenue in Dunedin late Saturday.

A teen bicyclist was injured when he was struck by a vehicle while riding on a Main Street sidewalk Saturday night in Dunedin, authorities report.

The 16-year-old Clearwater boy's injuries are not life-threatening, Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies report. He was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.

Patrol deputies say the teen was not wearing a helmet and did not have lights on the bike.

Daniel E. McLaughlin was riding a bicycle east on Main Street on the sidewalk just after 8 p.m. Saturday, according to deputies.

Mary J. Woodmansee, 89, also of Clearwater, was traveling north in a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee on New York Avenue. She had just stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Main Street.

Woodmansee started to make a right turn to head east on Main Street and struck the teen as he attempted to cross New York Avenue in the crosswalk.

The investigation is ongoing.
