Suspect Named in 10-Year-Old Slaying – Now Police Must Find Him

Clearwater Police said that they believe they know who killed the mother and son. They just can't find him.

Clearwater Police want to locate and talk to Gilberto Juarez-Hernandez .

Police consider him the prime suspect in the 10-year-old brutal stabbing deaths of a mother and her 2-year-old son.

Friday marks the 10 year anniversary of the slaying of Petra Martin and her child in their Clearwater home, 400 S. San Remo Ave. Her infant daughter was unharmed in the incident.

Martin was described as a hard-working, honest woman who took good care of her son, Uriel. He had survived cancer and had just completed a round of chemotherapy.

Clearwater Police said Thursday that they believe they know who killed the mother and son. They just can't find him.

Gilberto Juarez-Hernandez was named in two first-degree murder warrants in
October 2012, after a bloody fingerprint identified him as the suspect.

Now authorities are asking the public for help. Here are the clues:

  • Police think the suspect might be in the Des Moines, Iowa, area. He has friends and family members there.
  • Juarez-Hernandez is 33 years old now. In a 1999 booking photo from Iowa, he was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds.
  • He has brown hair and brown eyes.
  • He has scars on his back, left hand and one of his left fingers.

562-4422. Tipsters can also remain anonymous by texting the letters "CWPD"
with information to tip411 (847411) from their cell phones.
