Spring Break Boating Safety

Clearwater Police offer some tips for Spring Break boating safety.

Clearwater Police want to make sure Spring Break boaters remember some safety tips:

  • Always wear a life jacket on any type of boat or personal watercraft.
  • Keep a safe distance. Don’t get too close to other boats, swimmers or marine life.
  • Stay in touch. Before going out on a boat, let someone know where you are going and how long you will be gone. If someone has this information, they will have an idea where to look for you if you get into trouble.
  • Operate personal watercraft responsibly. Weaving through busy vessel traffic, jumping the wake of another vessel unreasonably close or swerving at the last possible moment to avoid collision is classified as reckless operation of a vessel and a first degree misdemeanor.
