Police: Slow Down in School Zones

Clearwater Police were at various school zones waiting with their radar guns and ticket books Monday morning.

As Clearwater students made it to class to start the new year, police were ready for speeding drivers.

Clearwater Police were at various school zones waiting with their radar guns and ticket books Monday morning. 

Officers issued more than 30 citations and 14 warnings to drivers for violations including not driving slow enough and not stopping for school buses.

Here is a break down of the citations issued:

  • 5 - Passing stopped school bus
  • 4 - Speeding in a school zone
  • 13 - Violation of a traffic control device
  • 2 - Speed
  • 5 - Other moving violations
  • 6 - Non-moving violations
Speeding in a school zone tickets range from $156 (for going 1-9 mph over) to $456 (for going 20-29 mph over). The fine for not stopping for a stopped school bus is $271.
