Update, 1:23 p.m.:
Police have identified the man who they say fired several rounds at the windows and doors of a Largo office building lobby Wednesday morning, then shot himself in the abdomen in an apparent suicide attempt.
According to Largo Police, Fred Michael Sumner, 52, entered the lobby of the BayView Pavillion Office Business Complex, 1550 Lighwave Dr., just before 9:30 a.m., pulled a semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and begin firing at the windows and doors.
"He did not aim or threaten anyone in the lobby area," Largo Police Lt. Mike Loux said in a media release. "After firing several rounds at the windows and doors, he fired a single shot into his own abdomen area."
Sumner was flown by helicopter to an area hospital, where he is alive and under arrest, Loux said. He is charged with criminal mischief and shooting within an occupied building.
Sumner's wife works for a business at the complex but was not present during the incident, according to police. She has been located and is uninjured, Loux said.
Police initially indicated the shooting occurred at Clarity Services, a business inside the complex, but later clarified that 911 calls came from Clarity.
