Police: Man, 72, Showed Porn Videos to 11-Year-Old Girl

John H. Coomes had befriended the girl's family and was trusted to have her occasionally visit his home, Clearwater Police detectives said Tuesday.

A 72-year-old Clearwater man was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with showing pornography to an 11-year-old girl who was visiting his home, according to Clearwater Police.

Detectives say John H. Coomes had befriended the girl's family and was trusted to have the girl occasionally visit his home at 13 S. Duncan Ave. 

During a recent visit, Coomes showed the girl "obscene material," including pornographic videos, while they were in Coomes' bedroom, public safety spokesperson Elizabeth Watts said in a media release.

The girl's parents contacted police, who began an investigation.

Coomes was arrested around 1 p.m. Tuesday and charged with showing obscenity to a minor.

He was being held in Pinellas County Jail on $5,000 bond.
