Police Investigating Possible Jumper On the Howard Frankland

The Howard Frankland bridge is backed up due to an ongoing police investigation.

Update: Tampa Police and the Hernando County Sheriff's Office are working together on the investigation into the death of a jumper off the Howard Frankland bridge this morning.

The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. The victim's identity and more details on the investigation will be released when they are available, but at this point, it is unclear which law enforcement agency will assume the lead role.

Today at 2 p.m.

Tampa Police Officers are on scene at the Howard Frankland Bridge responding to witness reports of a jumper, causing major traffic delays Friday afternoon. 

A body has been recovered from the water already deceased and has yet to be identified. The body is being taken to the Courtney Campbell Causeway boat ramp for transport. Officials have not yet identified the body.

As of 1:45 p.m. traffic on the Howard Frankland bridge is backed up headed north into Tampa.
