Munchee's Armed Robbery Suspect Turns Himself In

One of two suspects in a Jan. 15 armed robbery at the Munchee's convenience store on Union Street in Dunedin is in custody Feb. 15, after he turned himself into authorities.

One of two suspects in a Jan. 15 armed robbery at the Munchee's convenience store on Union Street turned himself into authorities Friday.

Kwuashawn Wyche, 16, of the 1000 block of N. Martin Luther King Avenue in Clearwater, walked into the Clearwater Police Department around noon Feb. 15, turning himself in, in connection to a North Greenwood that sent one man to the hospital Jan. 25.

Pinellas County Sheriff's detectives report that they were able to identify the suspect based on tips received from people who recognized his voice and mannerisms in a surveillance video released to the media.

Two armed suspects entered Munchee's on Union Street in Dunedin at about 9:35 p.m. on Jan. 15. One suspect, acting as a lookout, ordered a clerk near the door to lay on the ground, while the second suspect Wyche ordered the other clerk to go behind the counter, and demanded money from the cash register and cartons of cigarettes, authorities say.

Suspect Wyche then struck the clerk over the head with his gun and fled on foot.

Wyche is also connected to the Jan. 25 shooting incident on Engman Steet and Holt Avenue in Clearwater that sent a man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man since has been released from the hospital.

Wyche was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the Clearwater incident and armed robbery in connection to the Dunedin armed robbery.

The second suspect in the Union Street Munchee's armed robbery has not yet been identified, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reports.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jeff Capra at 727-582-6200, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers (a 24-hour tip line) at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477).
